How to Choose a Good Nail Salon in Binh Thanh, Saigon: 7 Signs

Low prices and pretty photos online tell you little. Here are 7 things to check when choosing a nail salon in Ho Chi Minh City — most visible in your first five minutes.

Binh Thanh has a lot of nail salons, and prices vary several times over. Online photos all look good. So how do you choose — especially if you are new to Saigon?

These are the signs people in the trade look for. Most of them you can check in your first five minutes.

1. Tools come out of a sealed sterilisation pouch

The most important sign, and the easiest to see. Nippers and cuticle pushers should come out of a sealed sterilisation pouch in front of you, not from a shared box sitting on the table.

If you don't see this, ask how the tools are sterilised. A salon that follows proper procedure will answer clearly.

2. They look at your natural nails first

A good technician checks your nails before anything else: thick or thin, any peeling, what you had done last time. Then they advise.

A salon that starts filing without asking is following one routine for everyone — convenient for the salon, not for your nails.

3. Gel is soaked off, never pried

If you hear a "crack" while gel is being removed, consider another salon. Proper removal means wrapping the nails in acetone-soaked cotton for 10–15 minutes until the gel softens, then gently pushing it off.

Prying saves ten minutes, and takes a few layers of your natural nail with it every time.

4. A clear price before you start

The price should be stated before the service, including extras such as removal, repair or rhinestones. New charges at the till are a sign not to ignore.

5. Products with clear labels

Look at the shelf: branded bottles with clear dates, or unlabelled refills? Low-quality gel is a common cause of skin irritation and yellowed nails.

6. Good ventilation, no heavy chemical smell

A light smell of acetone is normal. If the air feels heavy or your eyes sting, the ventilation is not good enough — for you and for the technicians who sit there all day.

7. One guest per time slot

When one technician moves between three guests at once, quality is hard to keep consistent. Salons that book each guest separately work more slowly and more carefully.

In short

None of these seven points needs expert knowledge — just attention. You can always ask, and you can always change your mind if something doesn't feel right.
