Authentic Korean Gel Polish: How It Differs and How to Tell at the Salon
Authentic Korean gel and gel of unclear origin look the same on day one. The difference shows in week two: yellowing, lifting, irritation. Why, and five ways to tell at the salon.

"Korean gel" is used very loosely. Some salons use authentic imported gel; others use gel of unclear origin with Korean text printed on the label. Both look similar on day one and very different by week two. This guide explains what sets authentic Korean gel apart and how to tell at the salon.
Where good gel and poor gel differ
Gel polish is mainly a resin base, pigment and a photoinitiator that hardens it under the lamp. Poor gel usually saves on resin and pigment, which shows as:
- Yellowing within 1–2 weeks, especially on white, nude and sheer shades
- Early lifting because the gel shrinks unevenly when cured
- More heat than usual under the lamp
- Skin irritation around the nail a few days later

The Korean gels VESSCA uses
| Brand | Used for |
|---|---|
| Kiss NY Tinker Gel | Cat-eye, jelly and everyday base shades |
| 눈서림 Snow Velvet | Soft matte velvet finish |
| 눈서림 Snow Velvet Candy | Sheer candy jelly |
| Aurora Queen | Fine rainbow shimmer |
All are chosen by the salon and brought from Korea. Premium Korean gel sets are 220,000–280,000₫ for the colour.
Five ways to tell at the salon
- Ask the brand and see the bottle. A salon using authentic gel names it and shows you straight away.
- Check the label. Original, clearly printed — not a refill or a peeled bottle.
- Look inside. Good cat-eye and shimmer gels have fine, evenly spread particles.
- Notice the heat. Slight warmth is normal; strong burning on every layer is worth asking about.
- Consider the price. Premium effects at plain-gel prices are rarely authentic.

Good gel still needs good technique
Korean gel looks best in several thin layers, each fully cured. One thick coat may not harden fully underneath, which can cause irritation and early lifting however good the gel is. VESSCA's owner trained in Korea, and thin-layer application is used on every set.
If you have had a reaction before, tell your technician first. If skin swells or blisters, remove the gel and see a dermatologist.
VESSCA is at 251/30 Le Quang Dinh, Gia Dinh ward (Binh Thanh), Ho Chi Minh City, open 9:00–20:30 daily.
