Bridal Nails: How Many Days Before, and Which Shape and Colour for Wedding Photos
The ring exchange is the closest hand shot in your album. Four decisions for bridal nails: timing, shape for the ring finger, why ivory dresses clash with bright white nails, and why to do a trial 3–4 weeks before.

In the whole wedding album there is exactly one close-up of your hands: the ring exchange. Your ring finger fills the frame, and everything on the nail — including any regrowth gap — shows. This guide isn't about pretty designs. It covers four decisions that can spoil bridal nails: how many days before, which shape, which colour, and why to do a trial.
How many days before the wedding
The short answer: 3–5 days. Not the day before — if the colour looks different, a nail lifts or your cuticles are a little red after trimming, you need time to fix it, and the day before is when your hands are busiest. Not two weeks before — the regrowth gap at the base is easy to miss in person but obvious in a ring close-up. If you have an engagement ceremony and a wedding a few weeks apart, plan around the biggest photo day and add a gel fill (190,000₫ per set) before the other.

The ring finger decides the shape
- Thickness at the base. With sculpted gel, material near the base is thicker than your nail, so a snug ring can be harder to slide on. Bring your wedding ring to the appointment so the technician can thin that area.
- Shape and framing. Oval or almond lengthens fingers in close-ups; a soft square looks neat for naturally short nails.
Don't jump in length. On the day you hold flowers, raise glasses, fasten buttons and change outfits. Slightly longer than usual is enough to look great.
Wedding dresses are rarely pure white
Most are ivory, cream or blush. Bright white nails next to an ivory dress make the dress look yellower in photos. Three safe directions:
- Pink nude or milky shades — suit almost any dress and also the red áo dài for the engagement ceremony, so one set covers both.
- Fine French — the finer the line, the more timeless. From 15,000₫ on top of colour.
- Pearl or soft shimmer — catches studio light well. Premium Korean pearl is 280,000₫.
A common trap: red nails with a red áo dài. The two reds rarely match, and slightly different reds side by side look off. If you want red, compare against the fabric in white light before painting.
Do a trial 3–4 weeks before
Do exactly the set you plan for the wedding. It shows the real colour on your real hands, and reveals any skin reaction on an ordinary day rather than the night before. Never try a new material for the first time just before the wedding. Photograph the trial in daylight so you can simply show it next time.
Approximate cost
| Style | Includes | Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Clean and natural | Hand cuticle care + nude gel | ~190,000₫ |
| Most chosen | Cuticle care + tips + plain gel + fine French | ~335,000₫ |
| Lots of close-ups | Cuticle care + builder gel + premium pearl + 3 stones | ~620,000₫ |
Add 30,000₫ if old gel needs removing. If your hands are dry from weeks of preparation, a 30-minute Hand Ritual (250,000₫) is best done at the trial.
Three things often forgotten
- Toes — for open shoes or beach photos. Foot cuticle care and shaping is 70,000₫.
- Your party — mothers and bridesmaids often want the same day. With one technician per guest, places are limited; tell us how many when booking.
- After the wedding — don't pry your set off before the honeymoon.
